Under 14 CFR 91.151, what fuel reserve must an airplane operating under VFR have at the time of landing at the first point of intended landing, assuming normal cruising speed?

3/4

For a day flight, enough fuel to continue for at least 30 minutes at normal cruising speed. At night the reserve is 45 minutes.

You recalled the day and night reserve figures correctly, but the response does not state the fuel needed to reach the first point of intended landing before the reserve is counted.

Missed

State both parts of the requirement: fuel to the first point of intended landing, then the applicable reserve.

Model answerFor an airplane operating under VFR, 14 CFR 91.151 requires enough fuel to fly to the first point of intended landing and, after that, to fly for at least 30 minutes at normal cruising speed by day or 45 minutes at night. I would apply the day or night condition stated in the question. The reserve is not a substitute for the fuel needed to reach the first point of intended landing.
