A written answer, marked
A question from a Praxis mock paper, answered and marked. From Praxis Practice Questions: 10 Questions with Explanations.
A school wants to introduce weekly peer review of student writing. Explain one likely benefit, identify one risk, and recommend how the teacher should structure the activity.
14/18Peer review can give students an audience and help them notice strengths and weaknesses in their writing. The teacher should give students a checklist and ask them to exchange drafts. The teacher should also make sure students are respectful and should assess the final writing.
The response identifies a plausible benefit and proposes a relevant structure. It needs a more specific risk and a clearer explanation of how the teacher will monitor whether peer comments are accurate and useful.
Missed
−Name a concrete risk, such as inaccurate or overly general peer feedback.
−Explain how the teacher will model one review, monitor groups and require the writer to decide which feedback to use.
Model answerClaim: Peer review can improve revision because writers receive a reader’s response. Risk: Comments may be inaccurate, vague or focused on personal preference. Instruction: Model a review with the checklist, including one specific comment linked to the success criteria. Monitoring: Confer with groups and require each writer to identify the feedback they will accept, reject or investigate. Assessment: Compare the revised draft with the criteria and review the quality of the peer feedback.
