Plans and usage

What is free, what the two plans add, what the packs cost, and what happens when something runs out.

Anything that only moves your own material around is free on every plan. Anything that asks the AI to do work is either counted or metered, depending on your plan.

What is free#

No payment card, and nothing expires. You need a verified email address.

Not counted at all:

• Boards, sections, columns and text, as many as you like.
• Images, up to 200 MB.
• Everything you do by hand: typing, arranging, search, undo, the pen tray's highlighting, read-aloud in the browser's own voice, the pomodoro.
• Reviewing what you have: drilling cards, re-sitting a paper, replaying a narrated lecture, re-reading an attempt.

AI actions are treated in four ways.

Tidying what is already there — not counted

Suggested sections and Fill board; the section toolbar (Complete, Write, Shorter, Format, Check); translating a selection; Explain on a highlight; the Must not miss core; the note actions in Sources. Asking for ideas (the lecture ideas list, suggested stations) belongs here too.

These share one small pool, roughly a board's worth of tidying in a sitting. It refills five hours after the first action that drew on it, and on the first of each month. When it is empty, the app says when it comes back.

Bringing things in through the AI — five of them

Lifting text off an image, reading or describing a picture, merging from Sources into a board, rebuilding a page, reading a link, a PubMed search, and transcribing a recording.

Five imports, counted per file or action: a thirty-page scan is one. Importing a PDF's text layer as it is never counts.

Pictures from the web — ten searches

Add a picture searches Google Images. Ten searches, each counted once however many pictures you add. A failed search, or one blocked by the day's limit, does not count, and searches never use your imports.

Making something — one of each

• Twenty cards in all, across every board. A run of Make cards keeps as many as are left, so the first run on a well-filled board usually uses them all.
• Cards from your misses are free, even after the counter runs out.
• Sitting, marking and re-sitting a paper never count.
• A lecture includes its narration and read-along. Free lectures are 5 or 10 minutes; 15 and 20 need a plan.
• The free oral question is written and answered once, with its transcript, marking and spoken feedback.
• Working through a course never counts: its lessons, checks and views come with it.

On a plan from the first click

Translating a whole board, Check board, Ask (the assistant) and Apps. Ask and Apps are switched on account by account, so yours may not show them yet. Sharing a subject, and lectures of 15 or 20 minutes, also need a plan. Nothing else is behind a wall.

Nothing you made is taken away

What you made stays yours, drillable, sittable and playable, for as long as the account exists. A counter at zero only stops the next one. The same holds if a plan lapses.

One bundle per person#

The free bundle belongs to the email address, not the account. A second account, or a deleted and recreated one, on the same address carries on from the same counters. Anything after a + is ignored, and on Gmail so are dots. Only a one-way hash of the address is stored.

Storage#

200 MB free, 2 GB on a paid plan. Images and generated audio count.

At the cap, new uploads are held back and nothing else changes. Storage is recounted overnight, so freed space comes back the next day.

A removed image is normally kept for up to 30 days so a restore point can bring it back. Once you are full that hold stops: deleting frees space overnight, but restoring an old version of a board may come back with a picture missing.

Where to see what is left#

The account menu, top right. A free plan shows each counter as used of total (Cards 12 of 20, Exams 0 of 1), with the tidying pool, month and storage as percentages. A plan shows the session window, the month, storage and any pack credits. The same rows are on Account → Usage, and read-only in Settings on the phone.

A notice appears only when something is nearly out: 70% of the session window, 80% of the month, or 80% of storage.

What a credit is#

One credit is one US cent of estimated AI cost. Paid plans and credit packs are measured in credits; the free plan counts actions instead.

There is no fixed price per action. Cost depends on the model and how much of your board goes in, and the app shows it as a share of your plan.

A generation holds the most it could cost while it runs, then settles on its real cost and returns the rest. That is why a balance can dip and recover.

The plans#

Both plans have exactly the same features. They differ only in included usage and billing period. Yearly saves A$99 (Standard) or A$169 (Extended) on a year of monthly payments.

A plan adds:

• No counters. Cards, papers, lectures, courses, views, sorts, AI imports and image searches on every board, as often as the included usage allows.
• The AI examiner. Stations from any board, answered as questions (or sat as vivas where the viva is open) as often as you like, marked, with spoken feedback. Nothing separate to buy: the Viva Pass is no longer sold.
• Lectures of 15 and 20 minutes.
• Translating or checking a whole board, and Ask and Apps where they are switched on.
• Sharing a subject with up to five other people. See sharing.
• 2 GB of storage.

Included usage:

The window resets five hours after it opens, the month on the first. Everything draws on the same pool, vivas included.

Choose by audio. Text study barely touches either ceiling. A ten-minute narrated lecture is about 22 credits and an oral question about 8, so Standard's month is roughly eighteen lectures or fifty oral questions, and Extended's four times that. Lectures and oral practice most days: Extended. Otherwise: Standard.

There is no overage charge. When the pool is used up, AI actions pause until it resets, or you spend pack credits.

Changing plan

Account → Change plan opens the billing portal, which switches between Standard and Extended, or monthly and yearly, on your existing subscription.

• Moving up (Standard to Extended, or monthly to yearly) applies at once. The prorated difference is added to your next invoice, so you never pay twice for the same days. Standard yearly to Extended monthly counts as moving up: the unused year becomes account credit for the following months.
• Moving down (Extended to Standard, or yearly to monthly) takes effect at the end of the billing period. The portal shows the date, and you can cancel or change it until then.

You cannot start a second subscription; checkout points you to the portal.

On the iPhone

The iPhone app sells the same two plans and three packs through the App Store, at the prices it shows in your currency. They give exactly what the web's do, on the same account. Apple bills a plan bought there, so you change or cancel it from the app's Settings → Plan → Manage subscription, not in the billing portal.

One plan at a time: while the App Store bills your plan the web will not sell you another, and while the web bills it the iPhone will not. Packs can be bought in either place.

The Mac app sells nothing in its window; buy and manage your plan on the web.

Credit packs#

One-off top-ups for when you go past your included usage. Credits never expire. If a plan lapses they wait on the account, but they do not lift the free plan's counters.

Under Top-up on the Account page the buttons read 200 credits · A$10, 550 credits · A$25 and 1,400 credits · A$60. One line under them says what the smallest covers: about 9 ten-minute narrated lectures, or 25 oral questions, or several hundred decks and exams.

Packs top up a plan. Without one, the buttons are hidden and checkout refuses with "Credit packs top up a plan — subscribe first". Included usage is always spent first, then pack credits.

When you run out#

A free counter is spent. The app says which, and where your first one is ("What you made is on Board 1"). Everything else carries on.

The free tidying pool is empty. A short pause, until later today or the first of next month. The message gives the time.

You asked for something on a plan (a whole-board translation or check, Ask, an app, sharing a subject). The plan page opens.

Included usage is gone (on a plan). AI actions pause, vivas included, and the app says until when. Still working: small section edits (Complete, Write, Shorter, Format), up to 50 a day on a fixed model, on inputs up to about 16,000 characters; and anything a credit pack pays for.

Slightly in the red. A generation occasionally costs more than it held. The Account page shows the overrun, and it comes off your next top-up.

Rate limits#

Caps on how fast requests can be made, separate from cost. These are the ones a normal user could reach.

"Too many requests — try again in N s": wait it out. "An earlier request of yours is still running — try again in N s": wait for that one rather than pressing again. A refused request is never charged.

Failed and truncated generations#

• Refused before it ran (too large, rate-limited, or stopped by the content check): nothing charged, no counter moves.
• Failed with nothing produced: the hold is returned, and a free counter is put back.
• Came back unfinished: the answer is discarded and you pay only for what was actually generated. The app retries once.
• A free section edit that cost nothing does not use one of the 50 daily passes.

Billing and receipts#

Account has subscribe, change plan and buy a credit pack. Manage billing opens the payment portal: invoices, card on file, changing plan and cancelling. Receipts are emailed.

Prices are in Australian dollars; checkout shows your local currency. On the iPhone, Apple takes the payment and sends the receipt. Direct debit or bank transfer can take a few days to clear, and the plan or credits arrive when it does. A refund or chargeback reverses what it paid for.
