The iPhone app

A study companion to the web portal, with lighter editing on the go.

The iPhone app uses the same account and boards as the web portal, and is built for studying away from your desk. What you do on one shows up on the other.

What it does#

The home screen shows what is due today, where you left off, the sections you marked to come back to, and what was generated recently. Below that are your subjects, the subjects shared with you, and any boards not in a subject. Search, notifications and settings are at the top.

From there:

• Subjects open on their dashboard: cards due, weak spots, paper and oral scores, and the index of boards. Practice picks sections across a subject's boards for a drill, a paper or a station.
• Boards open as a single column in reading order, with images. Tap a paragraph to have it explained or summarised, read aloud or highlighted. Long-press a section for its menu, including Come back to this.
• Cards drill a board, a subject, a Practice pick or everything due, with the same grades and schedule as the web. New cards are shown first so you can untick any you don't want. You can undo the last grade, edit or delete a card, and turn what you missed into new cards, a paper, a lecture or a station.
• Papers are set from a board, sat against the clock and marked by your examiner. You can drop a question, have a lost mark explained, ask for a re-mark, sit a fresh paper and see where your marks go missing.
• Lectures are suggested, written, narrated and played. The first part plays while the rest is narrated, the words are highlighted as they are spoken, and playback carries on when you lock the screen or move around the app.
• Orals let you answer a board's stations as a Question, aloud or typed, with follow-up questions, or sit them as a Viva where it is open. Each attempt opens on its score sheet, with the examiner's spoken feedback.
• Learn takes you through a board's course one lesson at a time, and picks up where you left it on either surface.
• The must not miss core is built and read on the board, and opens from a paper or a station.
• Ask is not on every account yet. Where it is, the phone has it too, and it can be opened about a section, a passage, a card, a marked question, a score sheet or a lecture.

Editing on the phone#

The phone is for studying first. There is no edit mode: changes start from a section's long-press menu, or Add a section at the foot of a board. You can:

• add, edit, move and delete sections, and add headings and page breaks;
• start a board blank, or have the AI build it from a topic, pasted notes, photographed pages, a PDF's text or a link;
• edit a subject's index, and build a board from a planned topic;
• set up a new subject, step by step as on the web;
• rename, archive, restore or delete a subject or a board;
• share a subject, change someone's role, or leave a subject shared with you;
• change a subject's examiner and exam date, and the language a subject or board is written in.

Changing a board needs a connection. A note or share made offline is saved on the phone and syncs when you are back online.

Notes and Sources#

The board, card, paper, lecture and oral screens have a note button. Type a note, or hold to record one. It lands in that board's Sources with what you were looking at attached, such as the card you got wrong or the paragraph the lecture was on.

Each board's Sources are on the phone too. Add to it from the camera, your photo library or Files. Read, edit or delete an item, or mark it done; transcribe a voice note; lift the text off a picture; add an item to the board, or merge a note in after reviewing what it will change. A note written in context can suggest what to do with it.

From the iOS share sheet you can send a PDF, Word document, photo, screenshot, web page or recording into a board's Sources. PDF and Word files are imported from Sources on the web.

When something arrives#

The phone tells you when something the web was making is ready: new cards, a paper, a lecture or an oral station.

Tapping one opens where it landed. A new paper opens the board's paper list rather than the paper itself, so its timer does not start without you.

Notifications arrive only while the app is open, and go quietly into Notification Centre rather than as a banner over what you are doing. The bell on the home screen lists what is being generated, what has finished or failed, and notices for your account.

What stays on the web#

• Arranging a board's columns and dragging its sections.
• Importing a PDF or Word document into a board, and cropping a diagram out of a picture.
• The AI buttons on a section's toolbar. The phone highlights a whole paragraph or bullet, not part of one.
• Moving, copying or translating a board, and moving sections between boards with Ask.
• A Learn lesson's flowchart and diagram views. Tables, timelines and mind maps are drawn on the phone.
• The pomodoro timer.
• Paying by card.

How to get it#

The app is on TestFlight, Apple's beta channel, not the public App Store. Ask for an invitation, then install Apple's free TestFlight app to join.

It runs on iPhone and iPad. There is no Android version yet.

Signing in, and what follows you#

Sign in with the same email and password, Google account or Apple ID as on the portal. You can also create an account or reset your password on the phone.

Your work, where you left off and your language settings all carry across. A card graded on the phone is due at the right time on the web. With Handoff, the screen you are on can be continued on a Mac, and a board, subject, paper or lecture open on the Mac can be continued on the phone.

The app's menus are in English or Brazilian Portuguese. They follow your phone's language until you choose one in Settings → Language, which sets it for your account on the web too. The app follows your phone's light or dark setting, and has no theme switch of its own.

Settings and your plan#

Settings shows who you are signed in as, your preferred name, language and app version, your usage (read-only, the same numbers as the web), notifications, Report a problem, the legal links, a data export and sign out.

Plan shows your plan and who bills it. On the phone a plan or a credit pack is bought through the App Store and is the same plan as on the web. A plan is changed where it was bought.

You can start account deletion in Settings, and cancel it within seven days on the phone or the web. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel that in your Apple ID's subscriptions.
