Apps
A small interactive app Ask AI builds from your notes inside a teaching chat, to predict with, move and then explain without.
An app is a small interactive page built from your own notes: a slider for a dose and a level, a threshold you can drag, two quantities traded off against each other. It lives inside Ask AI, in a teaching chat. There is no Apps tab on a board.
Apps are in early access, like Ask AI itself. They appear only once they have been switched on for your account; until then Ask AI explains in words or draws a view instead.
When Ask AI offers one#
While it is teaching, Ask AI may offer an app where a concept is a relationship you can move, with a number or a formula from your notes behind it. The offer is a card in the chat with one sentence on what you will move, and Build it · about a minute. Nothing is built, and nothing is used, until you press it. Skip passes on it.
A chat has at most one app, and only one thing is on the table at a time: the next question waits until the app is dealt with.
Using it#
Building takes about a minute. The app is run once before you see it, and if it fails to load it is repaired first.
- Predict. Above the app, Ask AI asks what you expect to happen: Before you touch it, predict: and two to five answers. The controls stay locked until you pick one.
- Move it. Once you have predicted, the controls work. Move them and check your prediction.
- Put away. Put away hides the app, and Ask AI asks one question about what you saw, to answer without it. That answer is marked like any other question in the chat.
If something in the app does not work, say what in the box under it ("the labels overlap", "the slider does nothing") and press Repair.
An app runs in a sealed frame: it cannot see your account, your other boards or anything outside itself, and it fetches nothing from the internet.
Keeping one#
Add to board, on the app's card, keeps it with the board; Remove from board takes it off again. On a board shared with you to view, there is no Add to board.
Kept apps are listed at /board/{id}/apps, where Open runs one full width and the ✕
deletes it. The page is not on the board's tabs. An app you did not keep stays in its chat,
and opens again when you come back to the chat.
What it costs#
An app built in a teaching chat comes with the chat: on the free plan it is part of your one teaching chat, and on a plan it draws on your included usage like the rest of the conversation. A repair is the same. See plans and usage.
On the iPhone#
Apps are built and used on the web. On the iPhone the chat shows what Ask AI offered and says to open the chat on the web to try it; the chat carries on from there on either.
